The Boots - This Is Not A Test

Genre: Rock: Alternative

The Boots are an Italian alternative rock quartet. Their debut album, entitled This Is Not A Test, was released in the late 2008 by the netlabel Airbagpromo Records.

Listening to the album, one can sense a certain amount of rawness and emotion in the music, especially when the album builds itself up with an Intro track and launches itself from there.

Tracks of note include the title track This Is Not A Test, You Will Wonder and Wasted.

The album may be downloaded at 320kbps quality from Airbagpromo records here.

Coldplay - LeftRightLeftRightLeft

Genre: Rock: Alternative

A band like Coldplay need no introduction, but for those of you who have been living under a rock this past decade or so, I’ll make one anyway. Coldplay are a quartet from London, England that have release many popular hits such as Yellow, Clocks, The Scientist and more recently, Viva La Vida.

This time, Coldplay have decided to release a live album from their Viva La Vida tour. It consists of 9 tracks that all interlinked together with no gaps between them, creating an illusion that you yourself are actuall at the tour.

Most of the tracks are live versions of songs from Coldplay’s latest album Viva La Vida, with minor live alterations. Coldplay do play some of their other popular songs, such as Clocks and Fix You, and they include a song, Glass of Water, from their latest EP too.

This album is available for free from a link from Coldplay’s website at 192kbps. You’ll have to submit your e-mail and location, but that’s it. Get it while it lasts!

Kismet - 3 Albums

Genre: Rock: Indie

Kismet are a indie rock quintet from the Netherlands. Influenced by Cursive, Blonde Redhead and Depeche Mode, these guys formed the band back in 2002. Producing 2 EPs, they found their sound and released their debut album Hiatus on the Beep! Beep! netlabel.

The EPs show the beginnings of the band. The production is a little rougher, but the tracks still shine. Tracks of note include Voice Like Vomit and Empathy.

The debut album Hiatus is a solid release. Nothing is amiss here, from the production to the song writing skills to the individual talent of each band member. Tracks of note include Brighter, Weather, White Castle and Same Story, Different Name.

All albums may be downloaded from the Beep! Beep! netlabel by following the links below:

Crete Boom - 2 Albums

Genre: Rock, Jazz

Crete Boom are a 7 piece Irish band that play a combination of rock, jazz, blues, rock and roll and God only knows what else. They have 2 EPs released through Jamendo, these being Ne’er Do Well and Navy and Grey.

I personally prefer Ne’er Do Well’s overall sound and feel. My favourite tracks include Sleeper and Flatline. The tracks on their debut album sound much livelier and appealing. However, I am in no way detracting from their second album, Navy and Grey. It has a much jazzier feel to it, especially their last track Broken Teeth.

Both albums may be downloaded from Jamendo by following the links below:

The Stingrays - Demo-CD

Genre: Rock: Surf

Free surf rock!

There are a multitude of bands out there called the The Stingrays, but only this one happens to offer their demo cd for download from their site. They’re a German band, and while the production is not the best of quality, the music is still pretty good.

Tracks of note include Our Favourite Martian and Pipeline.

The demo CD may be downloaded from this site.

Il Maniscalco Maldestro - Il Maniscalco Maldestro

Genre: Rock: Experimental

Il Maniscalco Maldestro are an Italian band with hints of experimental rock, folk, jazz and punk. There’s a lot of experimentation in their tracks; however this is not taken to extremes, making for some different listening.

One of my favourite elements of the band is the singer. Although he whispers a bit too much during the songs, his uses different techniques often enough to make his voice interesting.

Tracks of note include Metamorforsi Plausibile, L’Età del Bisturi and Silenzio di Cartapesta.

The album may be downloaded from Jamendo from here.

Marc Galea - My Journey

This release is by a local artist. Visit this page for more information.

Marc Galea, one of the guitar teachers at Ministry of Music in Birkarkara, has released an EP entitled My Journey , which is a compilation of some of his older recordings. In essence, it is instrumental rock, with 3 original songs and 1 rendition of Jimi Hendrix’ Voodoo Chile.

Tracks of note include Dusty Sunbeam and Still Alive.

The EP may be downloaded from Marc Galea’s official site here.

Nine Inch Nails - The Slip

Genre: rock: industrial

What can’t we say about Nine Inch Nails? This album was released without the help of record labels and was not advertised at all. The Slip is darker and less catchy then NiN’s past albums, but rawer and much heavier.

The Slip is available in VBR mp3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, 24-bit, 96kHz FLAC and WAV formats at this site.
