Superbus are a Polish duo of producers that combine nu jazz with ambient and electronic music. The 2 EPs by Superbus, namely, No Porno Please and The Place have excellent title tracks of ambient, calming music. I also recommend What About The Deep (Headache Version), althought I warn you, it does manage to induce a headache in people.

The album Debut contains a higher influence of nu jazz however. Examples of notable tracks from the album include Finest Morning, which starts off with blazing percussion, and Han Solo.

Genre: Rock, Jazz

Crete Boom are a 7 piece Irish band that play a combination of rock, jazz, blues, rock and roll and God only knows what else. They have 2 EPs released through Jamendo, these being Ne’er Do Well and Navy and Grey.

I personally prefer Ne’er Do Well’s overall sound and feel. My favourite tracks include Sleeper and Flatline. The tracks on their debut album sound much livelier and appealing. However, I am in no way detracting from their second album, Navy and Grey. It has a much jazzier feel to it, especially their last track Broken Teeth.

Triplexity are a nu jazz ensemble with a difference, they have never met in real life. All musical collaborations have occured through the Internet. Triplexity are made up of the artists Nikila, SaReGaMa (who I’ve already featured on my blog) and Hamelin Bérengnier. It is probably due to each artist’s varied repertoire that Triplexity’s music manages to sound danceable, exotic and jazz all at the same time.

Between Light and Shadow is an interesting first album by Triplexity and a pleasure to listen to. Tracks of note include Coal Train, Lucky Number Seven and Honky Fonky. It is interesting to note each track’s original and different sound. For example, Calleso contains a saxophone solo over some interesting beats, while 1000 and I Nights sounds very Arabian.

The single is Afro Blue, an easy going track that was released before their next album Live in Triplex City. Despite the name, it is not a live album at all, which is a pity. It would be interesting to watch and listen to these artists live.

Live in Triplex City contains more of the same music that Triplexity is known for. Tracks of note include Easygoing Groove, a very apt title, Lise, which is a very lounge-sounding track and Afro Blue’s sister track, Afro Red. Fried Lil Chicken at the end of the track sounds like circus music, which was an unexpected end to the album.

Live in Triplex City

Genre: jazz

La Flore Acoustique are a jazz group that manage to combine bossa nova, jazz and Latin American influences into their music. They have 2 albums available to download named 2005 and 2006.

The first album, 2005, is I think their best one. A particularly noteworthy track is Destruction, which includes Middle Eastern influences, and there is a particularly good saxophone solo on Plus Léger. However, make sure to check out both albums.

It’s not everyday that you can download full soundtracks of popular games for free and legally. Thus, we turn to SimCity 3000’s soundtrack, 15 tracks composed by Jerry Martin.

It is this soundtrack that provides a jazzy background while you wrestle with balancing economy and people happiness in your newfound city. Particular favourite tracks of mine include SIm Broadway and Central Park Sunday.
