Deastro - Grower

Genre: Electronic

Deastro, also known as Randolph Chabot, is an experimental electronic artist that has considerable influence from the shoegaze movement. Sweet, happy melodies define Deastro’s sound, with occasional forays into IDM-sounding tracks.

Tracks of note include Friends, a very happy sounding track, and Forest Arms, which somehow manages to combine shoegaze, IDM and electronic music all together.

Grower is available from RCRDLBL to download for free. Deastro also has 3 other singles and a debut album available, so if you enjoyed his music, feel free to check out his other material.

F.D. Project - 2 Albums

Genre: Ambient, Electronic, New Age

F.D. Project is a New Age / Ambient / Electronic project by the German artist Frank Dorittke. The two albums being featured today have both been released by the netlabel Pharmacom Records.

Both albums contain a combination of synth sounds, guitar riffing and drum patterns that pay homage to the electronic scene of the 70s.

The album, Mare Tranquillitatis, released in 2006, seems to have a much greater guitar influence than the second album Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2, released in 2008. Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2 contains many ambient and synth samples to create a soothing, electronic feel.

Tracks of note include Alone in the Dark from Mare Tranquillitatis and Mandarinentraum (Part 2) from Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2.

Canon Blue - Halcyon

Genre: Folk, Electronic, Post Rock

Canon Blue is a one man project from Nashville run by Daniel James. His style of music takes influences from folk music, indie electronic and post rock, creating a soft and soothing soundscape to listen to.

James has offered 3 releases through the Rumraket label, but only one of them is free, this being the EP Halcyon. It consists of 4 solid tracks, my favourites being Ennui and Kingfisher Sweet. The other two releases, an album by the name of Colonies and a single called Odds & Ends are available for purchase from the label.

Halcyon is available for free download by following this link.

Superbus - 3 Albums

Genre: Ambient, Jazz: Nu Jazz, Electronic

Superbus are a Polish duo of producers that combine nu jazz with ambient and electronic music. The 2 EPs by Superbus, namely, No Porno Please and The Place have excellent title tracks of ambient, calming music. I also recommend What About The Deep (Headache Version), althought I warn you, it does manage to induce a headache in people.

The album Debut contains a higher influence of nu jazz however. Examples of notable tracks from the album include Finest Morning, which starts off with blazing percussion, and Han Solo.

All 3 albums may be downloaded from the Sojus Records netlabel from the links below.

Particle Blue - Dubbien

Genre: Electronic, Experimental

This release is by a local artist. Visit this page for more information.

Particle Blue is a Maltese experimental electronic band. This album, available on the Pinkpube netlabel, is called Dubbien, which is Maltese for “flies” as in the insect. This album was apparently also the official soundtrack to a performance at St. James Cavalier in 2005.

The music itself is excellent electronic music, sometimes bordering on electro, and other times bordering on ambient, but one thing is for sure: it is experimental. The recurring theme of flies appears throughout the EP, with fly-like sounds making an appearance in songs such as Il-Firroll. Other tracks, such as Inevitabbli, showcase the experimental sounds of Particle Blue, as it crescendos into noise at the end of the track.

The EP may be downloaded from Pinkpube from this link.

Cie - bonbon

Genre: Electronic: Techno

Cie manages to release some very melodic techno in this EP, released on the Broque netlabel. Standard four-to-the-floor beats combined with melodic riffs make up for some very interesting and layered music.

My personal favourite tracks include schwedische gardinen, pulver and privileg. mike bob remix has a certain dub feel to the track, whilst privileg introduces some very calming sawtooth sounds.

The EP may be downloaded from the Broque netlabel by following this link.

The Mocks - M is Correct

Genre: Electronic, Pop: Indie

A strange combination of indie pop and electronic has produced, at least in The Mocks’ case, a calming hybrid of the two genres.

The band is actually a duet: Mario del Angel and Ela Gonzalez, a married couple, who compose the music and provide the vocals respectively.

This EP, released in early 2008, is a serious approach towards creating music and is highly recommend. Tracks of note include Inamorata, Reprisal and My Heart

The EP may be downloaded from The Mocks’ official website over here.

Imachi Akira - Lycoris Radiata

Genre: Acoustic, Ambient, Electronic: Glitch

I downloaded this EP while being assured that it was amazing. And how right they were.

Imachi Akira has released this EP on the Electronica net label, located in Siberia, Russia. It’s their ninth release over all and the content of this EP is simply sheer bliss and relaxation.

Akira uses elements of haunting ambient, ethereal sounds, acoustic guitars as well as noise samples, simple clicks and ticks. I suggest you listen to the whole EP from start to finish; you will not be disappointed.

The EP may be downloaded from here in 320kbps.

Avenpitch - Ten Track Sampler

Genre: Punk, Electronic

For those of you who frequently follow the blog, Avenpitch have been mentioned before. In fact, they had some of their songs featured in the Twin Cities Electropunk Compilations.

Todd Millenacker contacted me recently to send me a 10 track sampler available on Avenpitch’s website. It contains some tracks already featured on the Electropunk Compilations, but also some tracks from their older albums and their latest, upcoming album Cast Off.

Millenacker has very specific voice, but it works very well with Avenpitch’s sound. Nothing has quite a heavy riff as a chorus, and remains quite dissonant and dystopian during the verses. Jack The Idiot Dance, one of my particular favourites, is catchy and upbeat, as are Maybe I Was Wrong and Pregnant Pause, two songs from Avenpitch’s latest album Cast Off. Songs like Hacienda and Reactor are slower, more ballad-type songs which still work well.

The ten track sampler may be downloaded as 192kbps mp3s from Avenpitch’s official site over here.

That Crooner From Nowhere - This is Vocaltronica!

Genre: Experimental, Electronic

Aptly named vocaltronica, That Crooner From Nowhere is Al Da Tosta’s solo vocal project. Every sound made on this album comes from Tosta’s mouth, or so it seems.

It seems that on This is Vocaltronica!, Tosta dabbles in different styles, from soundscapes, to funk. An innovative project, I expect to see more of Tosta’s work in the future.

Tracks of note include Donamiao’s Funky Panda, Happiness in Hell and Fun Fat Fun.

This album may be downloaded from the Internet Archives from here.
