F.D. Project - 2 Albums

Genre: Ambient, Electronic, New Age

F.D. Project is a New Age / Ambient / Electronic project by the German artist Frank Dorittke. The two albums being featured today have both been released by the netlabel Pharmacom Records.

Both albums contain a combination of synth sounds, guitar riffing and drum patterns that pay homage to the electronic scene of the 70s.

The album, Mare Tranquillitatis, released in 2006, seems to have a much greater guitar influence than the second album Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2, released in 2008. Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2 contains many ambient and synth samples to create a soothing, electronic feel.

Tracks of note include Alone in the Dark from Mare Tranquillitatis and Mandarinentraum (Part 2) from Mare Tranquillitatis Vol. 2.

Superbus - 3 Albums

Genre: Ambient, Jazz: Nu Jazz, Electronic

Superbus are a Polish duo of producers that combine nu jazz with ambient and electronic music. The 2 EPs by Superbus, namely, No Porno Please and The Place have excellent title tracks of ambient, calming music. I also recommend What About The Deep (Headache Version), althought I warn you, it does manage to induce a headache in people.

The album Debut contains a higher influence of nu jazz however. Examples of notable tracks from the album include Finest Morning, which starts off with blazing percussion, and Han Solo.

All 3 albums may be downloaded from the Sojus Records netlabel from the links below.

Imachi Akira - Lycoris Radiata

Genre: Acoustic, Ambient, Electronic: Glitch

I downloaded this EP while being assured that it was amazing. And how right they were.

Imachi Akira has released this EP on the Electronica net label, located in Siberia, Russia. It’s their ninth release over all and the content of this EP is simply sheer bliss and relaxation.

Akira uses elements of haunting ambient, ethereal sounds, acoustic guitars as well as noise samples, simple clicks and ticks. I suggest you listen to the whole EP from start to finish; you will not be disappointed.

Entertainment for the Braindead - Hydrophobia

Genre: Folk, Acoustic, Ambient

Julia Kotowski has released a relaxing album called Hydrophobia. She plays all the instruments featured on this album and sings too. Spending hours recording in her parents’ living room using nothing but a USB microphone and a laptop, simplicity and calmness really shines.

This happens to be Entertainment for the Braindead’s second album. Her first album, Hypersomnia. This has also been released for free; however the download link has ceased to exist.

Tracks of note include Colours, Resolutions and Mi Corazon.

Joe Frawley - Ritual Research

Genre: Ambient, Experimental

Joe Frawley has released a few other albums before, but only this one is totally free. His music is a combination of original piano music, recordings of sounds around him and electronic processing. This effect gives his work an almost ethereal feel, bordering between real and not real, constantly changing.

His album, like most ambient, should be listened to in one go, so I cannot pin point tracks of note. It has an overall calming effect and should be an addition to your music library.

Human Terminal - Press Any Key

Genre: Electronic: IDM, Ambient

This is the sort of music I’d imagine that would be played in a downtown quiet bar with painted white walls, where everybody sits, drinks and enjoys the relaxing calmness. Human Terminal is actually Alexey Rodin, who strives to mix Ambient and Noise together in an effort to experiment.
