Anamanaguchi - Power Supply

Genre: Electronic: Chiptune

Anamanaguchi create music that sounds like it came straight from a video game. Indeed, welcome to chiptune music.

Anamanaguchi’s debut album Power Supply sounds very powerpoppish and catchy. I also especially like the fact that the drums sound like different levels of white noise, creating a totally electronic experience.

Tracks of note include Sting Operation and Fast Turtle.

The album may be downloaded from the netlabel 8bitpeoples over here.

Machinae Supremacy - “Jets ‘n’ Guns” Soundtrack

Genre: Metal: Power, Soundtrack: Game

More music from Machinae Supremacy; this time it’s a full-blown, 28-track soundtrack to the game Jets ‘n’ Guns.

Some music eventually appeared in full-length albums released by the band, only redone with added vocals.

Tracks of note include Flight of the Toyota, Knee Deep in the Xoxx and Theme from Jets ‘n’ Guns.

The album may be downloaded from Machinae Supremacy’s website here.

Machinae Supremacy - 3 Albums

Genre: Metal: Power

Machinae Supremacy are a Swedish band that play power metal with various influences, mainly from video games and electronic music. What’s even more interesting is that they use a SID chip to produce electronic sounds, giving them a weird but effective combination of game-sounding chip music and metal.

They currently have 3 free EPs to download, mostly single tracks composed here and there which are then grouped together.

Tracks of note include Anthem Apocalyptica and Masquerade from the album Origin, Kings of the Scene and Cryosleep from the album Arcade, and Bouff and Loot Burn Rape Kill Repeat from the album Fury.

All albums may be downloaded from Machinae Supremacy’s website here.

Simon V - Digital Christmas

Genre: Electronic

To keep in tune with the Christmas spirit, here’s some Christmas themed electronic music!

Simon V used to release a free track every 24th day of the month. Then, in December, he grouped them all and released them as a free album. The styles of the songs vary from Drum ‘n’ Bass to IDM to RnB tinged electronic.

Tracks of note include Karussell and Saudade.

The album may be downloaded from Simon V’s site here.

Salt - Jars of Clay

Genre: Pop: Pop Rock

This release is by a local artist. Visit this page for more information.

Jars of Clay has been released as a free single from Salt’s website for quite a while now; can’t imagine how I missed it.

Anyway, this 7 piece local band, who recently claimed Best Band at the BMAs, seem to be doing quite strongly, and this single does not deny it. Screeching guitars define this track quite nicely, from the introduction all the way to the solo.

The single is available as a 128kbps mp3 complete with cover art from Salt’s website through this link.

Joe Frawley - Ritual Research

Genre: Ambient, Experimental

Joe Frawley has released a few other albums before, but only this one is totally free. His music is a combination of original piano music, recordings of sounds around him and electronic processing. This effect gives his work an almost ethereal feel, bordering between real and not real, constantly changing.

His album, like most ambient, should be listened to in one go, so I cannot pin point tracks of note. It has an overall calming effect and should be an addition to your music library.

The album may be downloaded from the Internet Archives from here.

Atmosphere - Strictly Leakage

Genre: Hip Hop

A hip hop duo, rapper Slug and DJ/producer Ant have decided to release one of their albums, Strictly Leakage as a free download from the independant label Rhymesayers.

What I enjoy about this group is the fact that the hip hop places emphasis on the music as well as the lyrics. Most of the songs are very funky, using a lot of brass instruments.

Tracks of note include Little Math You, The Things That Hate Us and That’s Not Beef, That’s Pork.

The album may be downloaded from here as 192kbps mp3s.

Various Artists - Twin Cities Electropunk Volumes 1-4

Genre: Electronic, Punk

Bands from Minneapolis-Saint Paul have started fusing electronic and punk ideals together to form an interesting sound, sometimes more on the electronic side, sometimes more on the punk side, and at other times, sounding a lot like EBM.

The project, led by Todd Millenacker from Avenpitch, is an effort to showcase electropunk bands, In its fourth volume, the series presents different examples and several good songs worth listening to.

Tracks of note include: most of Avenpitch’s songs, Elevator Operator by TELEPHONE!, All Eyes Nation by Heliosphere and Goodbye Cruel World by ikki.

You can download all 4 volumes from here.

The Stingrays - Demo-CD

Genre: Rock: Surf

Free surf rock!

There are a multitude of bands out there called the The Stingrays, but only this one happens to offer their demo cd for download from their site. They’re a German band, and while the production is not the best of quality, the music is still pretty good.

Tracks of note include Our Favourite Martian and Pipeline.

The demo CD may be downloaded from this site.
