54 - PHI

Genre: Metal: Extreme Progressive

An extreme progressive metal band with a fanaticism for Pythagoras and maths? Indeed. 54 have only released a demo, titled PHI, and then split up. It is interesting to note that the band shares members with Ásmegin and Old Man’s Child.

The demo is quite an interesting release, a track of note being the first one, Fractal.

The album may be downloaded from 54’s official web site from here.

Human Terminal - Press Any Key

Genre: Electronic: IDM, Ambient

This is the sort of music I’d imagine that would be played in a downtown quiet bar with painted white walls, where everybody sits, drinks and enjoys the relaxing calmness. Human Terminal is actually Alexey Rodin, who strives to mix Ambient and Noise together in an effort to experiment.

Danjeli - Kakofonija

Genre: electronic, experimental

Danjeli, who is in my opinion, Malta’s finest electronic musician, has released his latest album via the netlabel Pinkpube. It is a release of raw electronic music with influences of Maltese folk. Tracks of note include Il-Festa tar-Raħal and Iż-Żufjett.

This album may be downloaded here as mp3s.

Eucharist - Discography

Genre: metal: melodic death

What’s this? Did the title say Discography?

Yes it did, my fellow metal friends. Eucharist have now released most of their discography (2 albums and a few demos) for free download!

Eucharist play melodic death metal, and rather well too, reminding me of a cross between At The Gates and older In Flames. In fact, Eucharist was one of the bands that established the sound that is now known as the Gothenburg sound.

Their albums may be downloaded from here in either 192kbps or 320kbps mp3s.

Fresh Body Shop - Orgamilk

Genre: pop: pop rock, acoustic

Fresh Body Shop is one person, Pedro, who sings and plays the acoustic guitar, and occasionally, the piano. This album, entitled Orgamilk, is full of fresh and catchy songs. My particular favourites are Nice Day and You Belong to This. If you like simple acoustic music, I recommend this album.

It may be downloaded from here as VBR mp3s.

Rob Costlow - 2 Albums

Genre: Solo Piano

Ahh, one of my personal favourites. Rob Costlow has released 2 albums of calming piano music; perfect to sleep to or to relax to. The songs are catchy and uplifting, and Costlow truely knows how to soothe the body and the mind.

He has released two albums, Woods of Chaos and Sophomore Jinx. Both contain the same calming vibe. Tracks of note off his albums include Family, my personal favourite, Meant To Be and Goodbyes.

A must have. Both albums may be downloaded from the links below as 192kbps mp3s.

Woods of Chaos

SaReGaMa - The 4 Elements

Genre: New Age, Electronic, Folk

The name of the artist, SaReGaMa, corresponds to the first 4 notes of the standard octave in Indian classical music. This should be a preparation in what their music entails.

SaReGaMa have over 12 releases on Jamendo, but I chose to feature The 4 Elements. As the album title suggests, 4 of the songs feature the classical elements in some way. Earth is a steady song with improvisations made on a framework of a few notes. Fire invokes the image of a rising, calming fire while Air is a light song, aptly subtitled “Kalimba Solo”. Water is a much more electronic song with hints of trance.

The album may be downloaded from here in mp3s of various bitrates, from 256kbps and upwards.

La Flore Acoustique - Two Albums

Genre: jazz

La Flore Acoustique are a jazz group that manage to combine bossa nova, jazz and Latin American influences into their music. They have 2 albums available to download named 2005 and 2006.

The first album, 2005, is I think their best one. A particularly noteworthy track is Destruction, which includes Middle Eastern influences, and there is a particularly good saxophone solo on Plus Léger. However, make sure to check out both albums.

Nine Inch Nails - The Slip

Genre: rock: industrial

What can’t we say about Nine Inch Nails? This album was released without the help of record labels and was not advertised at all. The Slip is darker and less catchy then NiN’s past albums, but rawer and much heavier.

The Slip is available in VBR mp3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, 24-bit, 96kHz FLAC and WAV formats at this site.

Nobody’s Bizness - Ao Vivo Na Capela da Misericórdia

Genre: blues

And now for something completely different; a live album of a Portugese blues band.

This album, although recorded live, is a great acoustic blues album. Although the accent may be rather heavy at some points, the music is very reminiscent of blues and early jazz.
